President Bush's support for renewing a ban on so-called "assault weapons" has rankled the National Rifle Association, but the chance of such a bill reaching the president's desk is "zero," said a top House Republican aide.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat, and seven other Senate gun-control advocates introduced a bill yesterday to reauthorize the ban on several types of semiautomatic rifles. The law, signed by President Clinton in 1994, is scheduled to expire Sept. 13, 2004.

It's crap like this that makes me ever distrustful of GWB. I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I expect him to send Powell to kiss up with Chirac any day now. Ever since he signed the campaign finance POS I have felt this way. Before he was elected I doubted him because his father betrayed the Reagan Revolution. Basicly I still feel the same way. I can't tell if he'll stand up and act like a real conservative in his second term or he'll get all liberal on us like the family he comes from. OK OK I know .... he's OUR president and he's done well. He's also acted like and governed like a rat several times. There is just something not right with the man I fear.
