A 17-month-old boy was hospitalized and his household under investigation for child endangerment Wednesday after doctors found marijuana in his system.

The boy's mother brought him to San Jose Regional Medical Center at about 12:30 a.m. after returning home from work to find him ill.

And I'm sure the libertarians will be on this thread soon to tell us it's the parents' right to smoke mary jane in the presence of a 17 month-old baby.

The child lives on North Jackson Avenue with his parents and their two roommates

How many parents with an infant/toddler also have 2 roommates? Weird.

Could be, but I think he was probably just exposed to some second-hand smoke, and the traces of THC found in his system had nothing to do with his ill-health. On the other hand, if his folks did indeed feed him ganja brownies (or cookies) or intentionally blow high-grade smoke in the kid's face, then his condition probably was a result of the THC consumption, and his parents should be held liable.

And how do they afford a nanny, who generally lives with the family a few days a week at least? (Or she would be called a housekeeper).

From what I've read it's nearly impossible to inhale enough second hand smoke to test positive for marijuana.

Of course that was referring to people taking drug tests who might have been exposed to secondhand smoke at parties. I imagine if you were a toddler living with a bunch of chronic potheads things might be different.

Yeah, except a baby can't get high off of second-hand alcohol.

You see, if marijuana was illegal this wouldn't have happened.

The problem isn't that something generally wrong is proscribed in one way or another. Otherwise you'd have to be consistent and clamor all over the forum for the re-legalization of robbery, since laws against robbery somehow force people to use guns and hurt others. We can do without you spamming the forum with your George Soros socialist brand of 'harm reduction.'

Re-read for comprehension---I neither said nor implied that marijuana proscription was the problem.

And the WOD haters will tell us again how the WOD is not working. ie If pot smokers didn't have to smoke inside this would have never happened.

No? That was your intended implication when you facetiously decried cannabis and cavalierly claimed that if only it were illegal then the child wouldn't have been poisoned.
