Is Olive Branch near Olive Hill, TN?

Living near a major tornado struck area makes you stop and think. Live 5 miles south of the Moore (F-5+) tornado that hit on 3 May 1999. The tornado that hit the Kansas City area had that same wedge shape as the Moore tornado.

Storm trackers from the Storm Prediction Center here in Norman have been tracking these tornadoes as they go across the Country. Don't see how they get people to be storm trackers as they get right up on the tornadoes and report the strength and direction they are headed. These storm trackers have saved countless lives over the years.

Prayers go out to the people affected by this outbreak of tornadoes!

That tornado hit just before I moved. Came right down my street, took out three large trees in my yard, then apparently jumped a bit and came down to take out the "Y", Shoe Carnival and Galyans. I lived in Greenwood and spent time in the basement on at least six occasions in eight years.

Been there and done that too. We lived in Thousand Oaks during the Whittier quake in 1987 and several smaller ones near San Diego. While they were scary, the thing that really frightened us were the Malibu fires. We could see the fires burning all around us and the air was RED.

Ugh! I'm in SE Tenn, and we're bracing for it now. The storms always seem to do more damage in the western part of the state due to the wide open spaces. The storms and tornadoes lose some power when they slam into the mountains here. Sounds like something wicked this way comes for us though. :>(

Olive Branch is in Mississippi, just across the state line from Germantown, TN. Germantown is in west Shelby county, the same country that Memphis is in. I've never heard of Olive Hill, TN. Where is it?

Roughly 5 mile from the Hardin County/Wayne County line. It's on Hwy 64.

We're OK in Memphis. Right now ther is a massive hailstorm in Olive Branch, MS, just across the state line.

There's a few trees down in the University of Memphis area, some a foot or better in diameter, and MLG&W had to restore power in a couple of instances where trees crashing down brought power lines down with them. And there's assorted trash and garbage that had been awaiting the Monday morning trash pickup all over the place, but in all, it could have been a whole lot worse.

I recall Olive Branch as taking a pretty good hit a couple of years back, with several of the aircraft at the Olive Branch Airport ending up on their backs or smashed into each other. But there was no loss of life then as I recall.

Many of our Severe Weather Skywarn Spotters are ham radio operators, often retired or with previous experience as police, fire department or as military radio communicators or in other emergency services. And, of course there are also meteorologists to whom tornadic winds are but a part of their job description, and whose respect for the storms is tempered with respect for their capibilities, but not overwritten by fear derived from any lack of knowledge or understanding of the conditions.

I haven't heard of any major damage in McNairy County. But if I run across anything related, I'll post here and give you a FReepmail as well.

Horrible, horrible images from MO and TN. Over a hundred buildings damaged just in Jackson, TN. Entire downtown of Pierce City, MO destroyed, bulldozers are now clearing out the brick rubble. I seriously wonder if it will ever be rebuilt.

And that's just what I was able to see when they briefly interrupted the far more important nonstop coverage of what Scott Peterson had for breakfast. If a Fox News reporter hadn't been from a neighborhood damaged in KC, I'm not sure they would have bothered covering this. Fair and Tabloid.

Not to sound morbid or anything but is it me or does anyone not see these things having a bit of a miracle attached to them? A re-building process and construction jobs and growth can come into a community or a town now thanks to tornadoes. Loss of life is impossible to replace. However, in the darkness of all of this chaos the light at the end of the tunnel has to be the fact that there is now open land and property that can be re-built at the cost of FEMA and the Govt. Maybe some of these area's have been having hard times with businesses and now insurance can pay off the small business owners.

I dunno...just trying to see some good in this.
