Any updates? I can't find anything on any news site at the moment. (Used to live there years ago, and still have friends in the area). Thanks for any replies.

BTW, I've found it to be much better coming here to get info from Freepers about these storms.

Didn't a tornado devastate Jackson, TN in January 1999? I was travelling then and stopped at a KFC in Jackson about 30 minutes before the tornado hit.

I believe that is correct.

This is going to be a big news story today...as the sun comes up and people realize how much destruction was caused by last nights tornadoes. I

Perhaps there are some people on this forum that live in Western Tennessee.

We're OK in Memphis. Right now ther is a massive hailstorm in Olive Branch, MS, just across the state line.

We're also seeing heavy damage in Middle TN this morning including Williamson (Franklin & Brentwood), Rutherford (Smryna & Murfreesboro), Montgomery (Clarksville) & Davidson (Nashville) County. Several counties have closed schools because roads are impassable and electricity is out.

Check the front page of The Tennessean for updates throughout the day. http://www.tennessean.com/

Wow I can't believe there were so many people killed. The major news media has not said one word about the 14 people killed in Jackson, Tennessee.

CNN is now putting the total death count from all the tornadoes at 34. This probably will rise a bit when more bodies are pulled out.

My husband and I just purchased a home with a basement here in Indiana. After seeing how devasted Homecroft was after the September, 2002 tornado )which was a couple miles away from us)....we decided right then that it was time to start looking. We've observed more and more homes around our area which are being built are installing basements.
