What I REALLY want to know is when and how much Clinton's associates met with Turkey's associates.

Why would Blair seek the advice of such a buffoon?

Apparently, it's a habit he can't seem to break.

From the Brazilian Embassy in London website:

Cardoso and Blair at Chequers

Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso paid a brief visit to the United Kingdom on 27-28 October 2001, accepting a last minute invitation by British Prime Minister Tony Blair for a private meeting. The two leaders met at Chequers, Buckinghamshire, and were joined by former American President Bill Clinton.

During the meeting Blair and Cardoso had the opportunity to discuss current global affairs issues such as the ongoing international campaign against terrorism, the forthcoming World Trade Organization meeting in Doha and the reform of the United Nations Security Council.

Speaking to the press before departing for France, President Cardoso stated that during the meeting they had agreed on the need for immediate reform of the UN Security Council so that the “fate of countries is not decided by a small group of nations, as it is today”. According to the Brazilian President, Blair and Clinton are also in favour of a greater level of openness in world markets. “We have to send a strong signal at the WTO meeting in Doha, of our willingness to give developing countries greater market access," said Cardoso.

I agree with you. It's obvious that you are aware of what a Leftist, biased rag "The Guardian" is.

I just wish more Freepers would realize that ANY political story that originates from The Guardian must be regarded with absolute skepticism.

I think the time has come to clean this up.

We need a law that will reign in diplomatic meddling by ex-presidents. Often as not, these people are the political opponents of those who follow them, and we really don't need this. We don't need more than one president at a time, or more than one person purporting to speak on behalf of the United States during foreign policy crises. This behavior should be a felony offense. It should be punishable by lengthy imprisonment.

What Clinton is doing here could get people killed. It may have already gotten people killed. It is a threat to our troops, to our overseas personnel, and to the safety of the people of the United States.

Clinton and Carter are grandstanding jackasses who violate every norm of protocol and decency observed by ex-presidents for 200 years. They are a disgrace to their party and to themselves. But worse than that, they are dangerous. There is no telling what misunderstanding could occur as a consequence of some foreign leader relying on the represenations of a "president" who is no longer in the loop.

This has to stop. If these two scumbuckets cannot keep their meddling hands off the tiller of state voluntarily, then we must take steps in law to forcibly restrain them.

I'm not happy with this, but have to ask, how "secret" could it be if Clinton visited Blair at Chequers? That wording seems over the top.

On the *other* hand, did you see this story broadcast on the news at the time it happened? Neither did I.

Marc Rich: Hero or villain?
Mr Rich fled the US for Switzerland in 1983. He was then facing charges of racketeering, illegal trading and evading a tax bill of $48m.

His ex-wife, Denise Rich, is a songwriter and New York socialite. It was the disclosure of her large donations to the Democratic Party that led Republicans to question Mr Clinton's decision to pardon Mr Rich.

Mr Rich made his money in oil, and was once a regular at OPEC oil conferences.

One of the charges brought against him before he fled the US, was trading oil with Iran - a country which at that time was considered an enemy state.

Blair's stalling because of that idiotic 2nd resolution that was never going to pass made our military go through those horrendous sandstorms and allowed Saddam time to continue to hide his WMD's and shred evidence. We should have gone in no later than February and the build-up would have happened sooner if necessary

Sandstorms in Iraq are more severe in the wintertime.

If Clinton is not arrested soon, or openly dealt with, Bush's diplomacy will continue to "fail miserably" with backstabbers such as Clinton being the fly in the ointment. Or his wife meeting secretly with foreign leaders.

God only knows what secret dealings are being manufactured.

Tony Blair took repeated secret advice from the former American president Bill Clinton on how to unlock the diplomatic impasse between Europe and the US in the build-up to the war on Iraq, the Guardian can reveal.

What "secret advice" did Blair take from Clinton and where is this documented in this article?

I think so. Apparently, the Nigerians are quite het up over Marc Rich's shady oil deals through soldier-businessman-politicians...shady even for the Nigerians.

I wonder if he's tied in with the Oil for Food Program?

Once you understand that The Bent One is most likely the source for the story, then you can see how such breathless words such as "secret" are used: it's nothing but a puff piece for Bubba.

The Atlantic Monthly | March 2003

An E-mail Exchange With Tony Blair About Bill Clinton

by James Fallows

.....

QUESTION:
What sort of role does Bill Clinton play with world leaders who are still in office—and what weight do his public statements and his private counsel carry—now that he himself has left the presidency?

BLAIR:
President Clinton has a wealth of experience to offer as any modern President would do after eight years in the White House. So, of course, what he says—whether in public or private—carries weight with other leaders.

He also, of course, has remarkable energy. What's good is that he is using this experience and enthusiasm to continue pushing forward those issues he cares so passionately about such as education, peace, and the problems of Africa.

People listen because they know that he knows what he is talking about. And his intervention not only draws attention to these issues but can also help prompt action.

QUESTION:
What is the current state of "Third Way" thinking internationally? With Bill Clinton out of office and with Al Gore not succeeding him, and with the current emphasis on post September 11 policies and politics, how much is left of the "Third Way" movement?

BLAIR:
We recently held an international seminar here on the Third Way which drew political figures and policy makers from all over the world including, I'm delighted to say, President Clinton. I'm giving no secrets away by saying his contribution was, for many people, the highlight of the weekend.

I think anyone who attended would know that there is plenty of life left in the Third Way and that it is influencing policy strongly across the world. No one should be surprised about this. There has never been a time when it has been more important that we have thinking and policies which combine the need for addressing global security and global poverty, or for tackling social injustice and promoting business. What the Third Way is showing is that these goals are not in conflict, as some have suggested in the past, but must be achieved together.

QUESTION:
What sort of ongoing personal relationship exists between Mr. Clinton and Mr. Blair? How often do they talk? Is the prime minister's job in England noticeably different, with the change in U.S. partners to work with?

BLAIR:
I'm lucky to count President Clinton as a friend. We try to see each other when he is in Britain, with Cherie and Hillary too, who are also friends. And we catch up on the phone as well from time to time. We speak, of course, about politics and world affairs but I suspect we also spend more time talking about our families and other things, like friends do, than many people might expect.

But this friendship doesn't interfere with the strong relationship Britain has with the United States or I personally have with President Bush. I know President Clinton would want to make sure that's the case because he, above all people, realises how important this relationship is.

President Bush may only have been in office a couple of years but, because of the appalling attacks of 9/11, Iraq, and other world events, we have worked together very closely indeed. I have a great deal of admiration for him. We get on well but more importantly, I think the relationship between our two countries has rarely, if ever, been closer. That's not just good news for Britain and the U.S. but for the whole world.

This isn't the first time Blair has consulted with Clinton about the U.N. since Bush took office. (See post #104). Unfortunately, it takes two to tango, and Blair apparently still has Clinton on his diplomatic dance card.

Blair is to be commended for backing up the U.S., but he also has his own political aims, not least of which is battling Chirac for control of the EU, and possibly exerting influence over Bush on other issues in return for Britain's support in Iraq.

Clinton is as sick an individual we have EVER had as a President! He is so empty inside that he has to be in the limelight every second. He will not find something to occupy himself! He is a traitor and is actively trying to sabotage this admn. Someone needs to call him out. That someone could be Newt Gingrich.

JUST GO AWAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY AND SHUT UUUUUUUUUPPPPP!!
