Tax Cuts Not High Priority for Americans (Educate Your Neighbors Alert!)
Gallup ^

The White House is gearing up for a major push to convince Congress to enact new tax cuts, but a review of recent polling data confirms that, while tax cuts sound good in principle, they are not a high priority for Americans. The public's support for tax cuts drops well below the majority level when poll respondents are reminded of alternative uses of the money. Polling conducted after the Bush tax cuts enacted in the summer of 2001 suggests that many Americans didn't think the cuts made a highly significant difference in their daily lives.

The "economy" is high on the list of priorities in this poll...but taxes, relatively speaking, aren't. Here is where some gentle but firm education about the coorelation between the two has to happen.

the problem here is that the media continually spoon-feeds the public the idea that money is more powerful when wielded by the government than by the individual or corporation...odd how a nation of intelligent people can honestly believe that they are better off giving their money to the worst-managed organization on earth to solve their problems than to do it with their own ingenuity.

You're right, the incessant brainwashing by big media and the left does take it's effect on the unthinking masses.

A baised poll based on questionable assumptions.

If I remember correctly, half of US workers don't pay federal income taxes. The other 50% can be broken down into 2 groups. Those that are happy paying taxes and those that aren't. That leaves about 25% of the population that understands the correlation.

odd how a nation of intelligent people can honestly believe that they are better off giving their money to the worst-managed organization on earth to solve their problems than to do it with their own ingenuity.

How to educate the general public in a meaningful way as to how much it really costs each person in time, effort and money to run the government. Do a comparative analysis.

How much does it cost a home builder to build a 2,000 sq ft house based on the national average? About $180,000.

XYZ Home Construction is a competently run business. If XYZ Construction built the same 2,000 sq ft house using the practices and procedures that the federal government uses -- applying the same modus operandi that politicians and bureaucrats use -- how much would it cost to build the house? How long would it take to build? What about quality?

It would likely cost three times more, take five times as long with half the quality. An article written to educate people on the real costs of government.

The article would break down each phase of constructing a house -- from deciding what type of land and the size, to studies on what type of wall covering goes on each wall and what type electrical switch plates to have for each room, to what type of shrubs and trees to plant, to the grade and color of shingles.

There's would be studies that study what type of neighbors are living next door and what their standards are that must be met when building a house. Studies to determine where the home buyer should live for the two years it takes to build their house.

Of course, XYZ Home Construction has to hire new employees, replace employees, determine pay raises for employees and what benefits they need -- just like the government does for itself.

figures don't lie but liars can figure. The story neglects to mention that 65% think that Taxes are either extremely important or VERY important. How does that square witht eh headline.

This is how most people thought we had the worst economy in 50 years back in 92. The headlines do not match reality and the news media has a credibility rating in Gallup below car sales.
