Movers & Shakers Daschle Does D.C.
Who's buying, who's selling in the world of high-end real estate:
Minority Leader Livin' Large
The honorable(gag) gentleman from South Dakota.
Senator Tom Daschle may earn a meager salary of $171,900, but together with lobbyist wife Linda, he's got enough to live large. The Daschles are currently under contract to buy a $2.25 million seven-bedroom house on Washington D.C.'s ritzy Foxhall Road, according to local sources. The property itself is described as a French country colonial home, with four stories, and a 12,855 square-foot yard with a heated pool. The home the Daschles are selling is a considerably more modest three-bedroom $739,000 townhouse.
Daschle, who suffered an acute case of foot-in-the-mouth-disease last month when he said President George W. Bush "failed so miserably at diplomacy that we're now forced to go to war," later admitted that his criticism was ill timed. Now he's busy extinguishing another fire: This one's in South Dakota, where the diocese of Sioux Falls requested he remove references to his standing as a member of the Catholic Church from his biography and campaign documents, according to a Weekly Standard report. The diocese reportedly believes Daschle's pro-choice stance conflicts with his Catholic faith.

French country colonial home
No, too easy a shot. I won't take it. Wouldn't be fair.
It actually sounds to me like Tommy is planning to retire. Why else buy a $2 million home in DC when he is under fire back in SD? Most of the folks back home have never even seen a $2 million home, much less ever had a shot at one. IMHO he and his wife are planning to retire (announcement to come just before the filing deadline in SD) and set up an influence peddling Demoncrat lobbying effort in DC. Oh, and also write his memoirs for a multi-million dollar advance.
Remember you heard it here first (unless I am wrong and then I will Clintonize this statement to prove I really said the opposite).

Tom Daschle's Duty to Be Morally Coherent
A Weekly Standard Exclusive: The Senate minority leader is ordered to stop calling himself a Catholic.
by J. Bottum
DASCHLE may no longer call himself a Catholic. The Senate minority leader and the highest ranking Democrat in Washington has been sent a letter by his home diocese of Sioux Falls, sources in South Dakota have told The Weekly Standard, directing him to remove from his congressional biography and campaign documents all references to his standing as a member of the Catholic Church.
This isn't exactly excommunication--which is unnecessary, in any case, since Daschle made himself ineligible for communion almost 20 years ago with his divorce and remarriage to a Washington lobbyist. The directive from Sioux Falls' Bishop Robert Carlson is rather something less than excommunication--and, at the same time, something more: a declaration that Tom Daschle's religious identification constitutes, in technical Catholic vocabulary, a grave public scandal. He was brought up as a Catholic, and he may still be in some sort of genuine mental and spiritual relation to the Church. Who besides his confessor could say? But Daschle's consistent political opposition to Catholic teachings on moral issues--abortion, in particular--has made him such a problem for ordinary churchgoers that the Church must deny him the use of the word "Catholic."
Much of the discussion about Daschle's standing has gone on in private over the last few years, although Bishop Carlson and Senator Daschle had a very public spat about partial-birth abortion in 1997. During the run-up to a Senate vote on the issue, Daschle proposed what he called a "compromise," banning the procedure while allowing exemptions for any woman who claimed mental or physical health reasons for having such a late-term procedure. Pointing out the way the exemptions gutted the ban, Carlson called Daschle's proposed compromise a "smokescreen" designed solely to "provide cover for pro-abortion senators and President Clinton, who wanted to avoid a veto confrontation."
Daschle, in turn, rose on the floor of the Senate in Washington to denounce his own bishop back in South Dakota for speaking in a way "more identified with the radical right than with thoughtful religious leadership." Carlson later told the Sioux Falls Argus Leader that he remains mystified by Daschle's position on abortion. "NARAL claims him as one of their number-one supporters. I don't understand how he can be in touch with South Dakotans as much as he is, and yet consistently have a pro-abortion record."
This year, on January 16, Bishop Carlson received additional ammunition for his discussions with Daschle when Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger's office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, issued in Rome a "Doctrinal Note" on Catholics in political life. "A well-formed Christian conscience," the note declared, "does not permit one to vote for a political program or an individual law which contradicts the fundamental contents of faith and morals."

I see that the members of the party of the "common man" hate living like peasants. Once more the fraud is exposed. Someone should do a show of the lifestyle of the rich and sleazy living it off at taxpayer's expense. It would make the best TV campaign commercial.

Actually,
I think Dashick's case is soooooooooooo bad,
he'd have to buy a road map from a media person
to be able to find his rear sufficiently well
to know WHERE to pull his head out from.

I'm deeply saddened.

I guess he plans on staying in Washington DC for awhile. He either thinks that he will be reelected to the Senate or he has lined up a job after he retires from the Senate. Either way, like so many Congressmen, Washington DC remains their real home and constituency.

CF thanks for posting this.
Bob, maybe a picture of the Da$$hole's French Palace would look great on billboards in S. Dakota in 2004?
The Forbes Article describing the Frenchie La Da$$hole's new digs should be sent all over S. Dakota after they move into the home. If they are sent out now, he might cancel the move.
Liz, his schank Linda, must be doing great lobbying what's left of the airline industry and other rat controlled companies.

I absolutely cannot stand to even hear that whiny voice or see his face on the television. I'm serious. I have to turn it off or risk destroying my TV. It's really sad.
I guess I need prayer, too.

If he buys this French Palace, he will open himself up to all types of problems.
We should just be quiet and let he and his millionaire shank, Linda, buy this French Palace. Also, when it happens, we need to refer to it asa French Palace not a mansion.

Also, when it happens, we need to refer to it asa French Palace not a mansion.Oh yeah. I absolutley love that idea. Monsieur and Mademoiselle Daschle have become part of the DC FrancocRATic aristocracy when they held a recent soiree' at their new "French Palace.
The French Palace was purchased in large part by virtue of le Linda's lobbying largesse provided by the taxpayers of America for useless radiation leaking L3 Communications bad x-ray machines mandated by Federal Law to be installed in all airports.
When asked by awed reporters from CNN who had the benefit of "THE IN INVITATION" what the common folk of South Dakota would think of their new FRENCH PALACE, little tommy was quoted as saying, "LET THEM EAT CAKE".
