At today's White House news briefing, WND asked presidential press secretary Ari Fleischer about the Marines' discovery of a tunnel complex under Iraq's Al-Tuwaitha atomic-energy facility and possible weapons-grade plutonium stored there.

WND: Can you provide us, Ari, with any further details on the Pittsburgh-Tribune Review, WorldNetDaily and Fox News story about the extensive tunnel infrastructure under the Al-Tuwaitha nuclear plant and reports of the possible discovery of weapons-grade plutonium?

FLEISCHER: That's a DOD matter, operationally, as they go through Iraq and take a look at the facts that they find and as they evaluate information they receive through their technical teams.

WND reports today that a U.S. investigation is underway to determine whether U.S. Marines guarding the nuclear facility have discovered previously undocumented weapons-grade nuclear material, or low-grade uranium about which United Nations inspectors previously knew.

This stuff is just sitting around. Where'd they get it? Russia?

Now that Humpty Dumpty had a great fall....how much of this stuff is in terrorist hands? Or stashed in hiding places.

Ugghh...very disquieting.

We don't know what it is yet, just that it's radioactive.

Granted, that's bad enough, but not evidence of plutonium.

Different materials give off different amounts and proportions of various kinds of radiation. You can, indeed, get a pretty good idea of what's in the box without opening it!
