National Rifle Association, membership 4.1 million, has a lot to celebrate at its 132nd annual meeting, scheduled for April 24-27 in Orlando, Fla.

Check out this list of victories compiled by UPI:

• New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a Clinton Democrat, recently signed a "concealed carry" law.

• Colorado Gov. Bill Owens, a Republican, made "shall issue right-to-carry" the law in the Centennial State. Only seven states don't permit residents to carry firearms for self-protection or the protection of loved ones.

• The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill to stop cities' nuisance lawsuits against gun manufacturers and dealers.

"On a sadder note, Academy-Award-winning actor Charlton Heston will be stepping down after an unprecedented six years as president of the organization," UPI notes. "His replacement is expected to be first vice president Kayne Robinson, the former police chief of Des Moines, Iowa, a longtime NRA board member."

Things for supporters of the Second Amendment to watch for:

• Leftist Democrats' bizarre new scheme to classify handguns as "weapons of mass destruction," a major story ignored by most of Big Media.

• More lawsuit lunacy. This week New York's attorney general sued Wal-Mart for selling toy guns. Perhaps the manufacturers and sellers of those miniature plastic fast-food restaurants will be next.
