Subject: Overseas Absentee Ballot Review and Protest

State and Federal law provides for the counting of "absentee qualified electors overseas" ballots for 10 days after the day of the election or until November 17, 2000. Florida Statutes defines as "absentee qualified elector overseas" to mean members of the Armed Forces while in the service, members of the merchant marine of the United States and other citizens of the United States, who are permanent residents of the states and are temporarily residing outside of the territories of the United States and the Districts of Columbia. These "absent qualified electors overseas" must also be qualified and registered as provided by law.

You are being asked to review these overseas absentee ballots to make a determination whether acceptance by the supervisor of elections and/or the county canvassing board is legal under Florida law. A challenge to these ballots must be made prior to the time that the ballot is removed from the mailing envelope. The specific statutory requirement for processing the canvass of an absentee ballot including of overseas absentee ballot.

Prior to the counting of Florida's overseas absentee ballots, it was learned that a Democrat lawyer sent a five-page memo to Democrat attorneys providing tips on how to protest the ballots which it was believed would heavily favor George W. Bush (and it turns out they did). The memo HERE is as it was posted on The Drudge Report on 11/19/00. Retired General Norman Schwarzkopf issued a statement in reaction to this memo and the 1500 rejected ballots.Statement Here

Protest of Overseas Absentee Ballot

As provided in Section 101.68(2)(c)(2), Florida Statutes. I, as an elector in __________ County, Florida, hereby protest against the canvass of the overseas absentee ballot described below:

NEVER FORGET....Democrats high-fiving when military ballots were originally thrown out!

SHAME ON GORE & LIEBERMAN, and all those Rats who "support our troops"!

This is in the "never forgive, never forget" category for Dem political tactics.

The Democrats did this "systematically" in the previous election. There were several newspaper articals relating to it at the time.

Our soldiers deserve much better. I think our President knows this, too.

Thanks for posting this, paul in cape.

It is quite useful to remember history. It is funny that the party that wants to deprive our soldiers of their right to vote, is the same party that has been quietly (and some not-so-quietly) opposing this war.

And yet, the soldiers carries on with his job.

These demoSCUMs couldn't carry a Pfc's water.

God Bless the men and women of our military services.

What a genius you are to remember this and share it.

Today as I watched those Marines, I thought of what fondness the military has for President Bush, and how important that's been in the performance of duty.

Al Gore and Joe Lieberman and the democrats let us know what they think of the military back during the fight for the election. The Democrats didn't get it then, don't get it now, they never will. Here's timely proof from this week's Joe Klein editorial in TIME magazine. Just a snippet of him making fun of President Bush, and by extension, the military:

"President Bush visited the Marines at Camp Lejeune last week. He also visited the Coast Guard. The week before, he visited the Army; before that, the navy. The speeches were pretty much the same; Saddam's finished, victory is assured, hurrah for our courageous troops. Cheerleading is a plausible presidential function, I suppose, but an odd thing has happened to Bush as the war has progressed. He has not grown in stature or gravitas, as wartime leaders usually do; he may have diminished....."

How's that for "not getting it"?

Even more infuriating were attempts by Democrats to disqualify military ballots that had no overseas postmark.

SuzanneC just im-ed to suggest this thread be a keeper for the 2004 election cycle. I predict military voter registrations will go through the roof, but we can't take anything for granted. Not with the mad registration of black voters that has already begun for Democrats.

This is something that many, many people will never forgive. That means that what they did may be statistically significant in flyover country & near-base elections for fifty years more.
