California has 35 million people, the globe's fifth-or sixth-most-powerful economy, enormous conflicts over water, land use, transportation, education, health care and dozens of other vital social and economic matters -- including, lest we forget, a state budget deficit so huge it almost defies description.

This "strawman" style of governing is being seen all over. In New York where we are in a 6 billion dollar hole, the jerks that are running the city are proud of their ban on smoking just about everywhere. This while we are trying to close the gap with cigarette tax money.
In NY state legislature, unable to do anything about anything has passed a law against using a cell phone while driving. The fact that the AAA put cell phone use and driving was the 9th cause of accidents ( under 10% ) meant nothing to them. They just lied and used the AAA's numbers in a distorted way.

Hello all

Now, I may be wrong, and I usually am, just ask my wife, but my understanding of the CA. deficit is that it could be less than 35 billion.

The reason it is so high is because, despite the lowering of CA's bond rating, and despite the gloomy economic prospects, the Governor is not cutting back on government spending, he is not even keeping spending at a constant level. He actually wants to increase state spending! I think I heard someone say that the increase the Governor wanted was between 20 and 30 percent more than the previous budget. You know the one that got us into this mess to begin with.

Let's see, when I hit my hand with this hammer it hurts, maybe, if I hit it more, and harder, it won't hurt.

If this is true, it simply boggles the mind. If this is true, I could still see how Davis won the election, money. If this is true, however, I can't see how he has lasted this long on God's good earth. Shouldn't he have been the recipient of a "Darwin Award" by now?

Best regards

Sergio

If a CEO and board of directors let a company get this far in debt (to scale) what would be the logical responce from the share holders? Only a moron wouldn't know the answer to that question. Conclusion: Californians who continue to support the states current political regime must be morons.

This happened by giving the illegals a free ride on the taxpayer's dime.
Oh, no! The little horsey is slowing down and there's no more dimes.

Does Dan have some kind of reality problem, or what? The scumbags have totally controlled every branch of government in California for the past several years, and the scumbags are totally in charge now. Funny that Dan only mentioned political party affiliation one time, and that was to slam a "Republican Assemblyman"!

At least Dan didn't embarrass himself again with a resigned sigh about "inevitable tax increase". Of course, he did mention "the education of millions of kids, the health of millions of poor people", while neglecting to mention the taxed-to-death traditional American family that is in need of tax relief.

The fact is, the Democrats, who control EVERYTHING, simply DO NOT CARE what happens to California and its budget. They are utterly and completely safe in their districts. They know that the parasites will elect and reelect them until their term limits kick in. In fact, the only way they can LOSE is if they propose spending cuts!! So, spending cuts ain't gonna happen, and California is right on schedule for the melt down.

Happy trails!
