Seems rather clear that we initially damaged the runway to prevent takeoffs and landings.

Nice find.

Wow, you sure that's pre-takeover? There is some significant post-strike damage to the Republican Guard compound at the south end of the field. The same RG facility that they showed pre/post strike imagery of in the Centcom breifing the other day.

I mean, I don't doubt its pre-takeover, I'm just curious, that's all :)

" Seems rather clear that we initially damaged the runway to prevent takeoffs and landings. "

Some analyst said yesterday, that the runways were just covered with dirt mounds and not cratered. If the Iraqis only temporarily disabled the runways, you have to wonder why. Were they planning on using it for some special mission? Did Saddam believe CNN and the Democrats and think the war would end in his favor and he wanted to make it easy for Dan Rather to get back in for a victory interview?

I though the "craters" looked a little too evenly distrubuted

The date on the picture proves nothing. The fact that I downloaded it before we took the airport, however, I find pretty compelling... ;)
