San Francisco -- San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown's administration is poised to give development control over the former Navy base at Treasure and Yerba Buena islands to two of his and the state Democratic Party's big money men.
The mayoral-appointed Treasure Island Development Authority on Wednesday is expected to approve an exclusive negotiation agreement for Treasure Island Naval Station with a partnership formed by lobbyist and fund-raiser Darius Anderson of Sonoma and investor and major campaign donor Ron Burkle of Los Angeles.

Slick Willie and Willie Brown What a team!
Just to recap:
-- US taxpayers get screwed.
-- Democratic Party gets big contribution.
-- Willie and Bill get their cut.
God I love this place.

Slick Willie? Which one is that? I recall Brown being reffered to as 'Slick Willie', for his control of the California state legistature, as far back as 1988.
Willie Brown has always used Treasure Island as his private domain.

For anyone who has never seen it, this is some of the most desireable property anywhere in the world. That is not an exaggeration.
It amazes me that there were only two bidders. That doesn't make any sense at all.

Between the outright graft and the PC crap that engulfs every construction project in the Bay Area, I wonder how the buildings even manage to stay standing.

In Central California, during the period of the first Clinton election, we referred to what's his name as Bildo (which rhymes with Hilary's favorite toy) and Slick Willie, after a cartoon character in GRUNT Magazine.

I hope no one is actually naive enough to be surprised by this. The only thing I have trouble figuring out is why the damn Navy doesn't just sell off these properties to the highest bidder acre by acre with a caveat emptor for the environmental aspects (which, IMO, are inconsequential compared to the land value).
