WASHINGTON - Three days after Pentagon enemies leaked stories accusing him of trying to run the Iraq war on the cheap, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld took to the lectern and, with his usual gleam-in-the-eye confidence, struck back.
''What we all know is the strategy is working,'' he said on Thursday. ''The coalition has secured the majority of Iraq's oil wells for the Iraqi people, secured key roads and bridges ... and has now arrived near the regime's doorstep, all in less than two weeks.''

Bump. And good move on marginalizing Shinstinki. His claims to fame: Clinton sycophant and Chinese-made black berets for all soldiers, and not just Rangers.

And do not forget the "Stryker" that overweight, underpowered wheeled monstrosity that Shinseki wanted to use as a replacement for the Bradley. How well would that piece of crap have done in the sand and mud we have found in Iraq?

Dan, any pithy comments on JV's rhetorical question above?
BTW, JV, I agree, that program looks like a turkey from here.

PIthy comments?
1. Under Clinton, the Army/Military did not get its way.
2. Rumsfeld's act in Iraq is kind of scary for us old guys but in this case, it seems to be working.
3. The Stryker is not a suitable weapon or platform for fast attack. Good riddance. If we were using it now we would surely be paying the price.
4. Shi$*sneaky on the way out, good riddance but 3 years too late.
That is about all of the pith I have in me tonight. I am beat.
