CNSNews.com) - Army Private First Class Jessica Lynch was not stabbed. She was not shot. But she does have two broken legs, a broken right arm, a broken right foot and ankle and a broken lumbar spine, a hospital spokesman said at a press conference on Friday. She's also being treated for a cut to her head. "She has undergone several surgeries to stabilize her injuries, including spinal surgery," said a spokesman at Landstuhl hospital in Germany, where a number of American GIs are treated.
Today she will have additional surgeries to treat her other broken bones.
The spokesman said the surgeries have gone very well, but she'll require extensive rehabilitation, the spokesman said.
Her doctors say the prognosis for Jessica's eventual recovery is excellent.
No one's saying how Jessica was injured, but press reports suggest her captors may have inflicted some of her wounds.
She's said to be in good spirits, although she's still being fed intravenously.
She is receiving continuous medical and psychological care, the hospital spokesman said.

I for one appreciate the tact and discretion with which the atrocities committed against this young women are being handled.

Sam Donaldson yesterday on his radio program was recommending she be considered for the Medal of Honor.
Until the facts are known (notice the multiple gunshot and stab wounds are not there) about her actions (if they even come close to what the Washington Post has intimated) I think this kind of talk is premature.

Seems her hummer might have been run over by a tracked vehicle.

I noticed while viewing BBC footage early on, that one of the 5-tons was overturned (I believe onto its left side) a SPC is a good candidate for the driver, with an NCO as the TC)
Perhaps her injuries are explainable from crashing and overturning a big truck and contacting the uncompromising environment of a military truck cab.

That's what it sounds like....Auto Acccident Trauma.
Doesn't matter, she's very lucky to be alive.
My best wishes to her and her family. I hope she recovers soon.

Besides, who is Sam Donaldson to recommend anyone for the CMH.
In the end, it may well come out that she is qualified, and I would support the awarding of the highest honor.
If however this winds up becoming nothing more than a cheap political stunt then it denigrates the award itself, and cheapens ANY of the awards given for battlefield heroism.
Perhaps Sam should stick to what he does best, (sarcasm on) truthfully reporting the news in an impartial manner. (/sarcasm)
Is Sam still around? I don't watch network news, so I have no idea.

Yeah, Sam's around on a.m. talk radio....Syracuse has lots of his type on the air. Rush is on here a 1:00 and so is Hannity. No Neal Boortz, though. a.m. in the morning's is pretty bad, I must say.

Long discussion on that on another board I'm on. Consensus based on what we now know is Bronze Star, maaaaybe Silver, if there's proof on the "shot several attackers until ran out of ammo/overrun".
She's a brave, lucky young lady, no matter what.

I didn't realize Sam had a radio show till last night, when I was driving home at 11:30pm and stumbled across it. I guess he doesn't get prime-time everywhere!

I appreciate they way they are handling her (showing class), but I am confused about the 11 dead they brought back with her. We know that their families have been notified by now. Here are my questions. Were any of the POWs shot execution style as implied in the news media? Among the 11, were some of these part of the group that was questioned on TV?
To: BushCountry
Good questions. I also heard that two of those bodies "were so mutilated that you couldn't tell what sex they were". Is that true? Inquiring minds...
