Ottawa City Councillor (Canadian politician) in desperate need of Freeping!

This afternoon on the local Ottawa, Ontario talk radio station, www.CFRA.com, brilliant, funny, conservative host--and yes, I realize that is redundant! ;-)--Lowell Green was debating Ottawa city councillor Alex Cullen.

Alex Cullen is apparently the man behind the city council's resolution not to support a non-UN sanctioned war on Iraq.

Lowell Green has been instrumental in organizing and inspiring thousands of average Canadians to speak up against Chretien's anti-American government.

Mr. Green spoke at last Saturday's massive rally on Parliament Hill, and he has thoroughly covered the war on his morning talk show.

In any case, he asked Mr. Cullen if, in light of the persistent anti-American comments by elected officials, in light of the booing of the U.S. National Anthem, in light of busloads of American kids beeing jeered by protesting Canadians, if the Ottawa City Council, considering its duty to the citizens of Ottawa, has taken any steps at all to reassure Americans that they are welcome here.

Mr. Cullen's response was that the tourism board predicts a boom summer for tourists from America, given the Canadian dollar and the uncertainty abroad. He said, "I have seen no evidence that Americans don't want to come to Canada."

Mr. Green's response (I'm paraphrasing) was that Mr. Cullen hasn't seen the hundreds of calls and emails he has received from angry Americans.

I'd also add that Mr. Cullen hasn't seen the posts here on FR.

Please, fellow Freepers, let's help wake up a socialist! If you're angry and don't want to come to Canada because of all the cr*p that has gone on, please let Mr. Cullen know!

and I say that as an American by birth who dearly loves her native country and her home, a country adopted "by marriage."

Canada is a beautiful country with wonderful people. We just need to get rid of the socialists who control it! :-)

I reminded Mr. Cullen that even if he doesn't want to admit it, British Columbia is a part of Canada and "if" I decide to visit again this year, I'll spend my "American dollars" in Vancouver, where Americans are welcome, instead of Ottawa.

I have been to Ottawa a few times and really enjoy the city. Actually, one of my fave places is the Canadian War Museum (somehow I dont think Jean Un-Chretien frequests the place). Lots of interesting things and enjoyed the Vimy Ridge display...and one of Hitler Mercedes armored cars is housed there (1 of only 2 left in the world)

I have even sat in on a session of Parliament...though it wasn't "Question and Answer" session.

I am glad to hear that Canadians are not all supporting Un-Chretien's stance regarding Iraqi Liberation

UCFRoadWarrior, I appreciate your comments about the city. I've driven by the War Museum many times, I need to go there. Unfortunately the current minister of defense doesn't know about Vimy ... (see John Robson's hilarious, thought-provoking columns in the Citizen! I'll have to post a link, he's fantastic! :-) )
