[history]
March 31, 2003 -- British troops have made an eerie discovery in occupied Iraq - a facility filled with training equipment for nuclear, biological and chemical warfare, according to British press reports.
The existence of the facility - packed with gear such as Geiger counters, nerve gas simulators, gas masks, protective suits and even a schematic of a nuclear mushroom cloud - flies in the face of Saddam Hussein's denials that his country is pursuing weapons of mass destruction.

HELLO CBS? NBC? ABC? CNN? even FOX?
This is the stuff we want to hear about. This is the stuff that exposes BLIX and the UN for the buffoons that they are.
To: kattracks
possession of countermeasures to NBC weaponry does not equate to evidence of possession of NBC weaponry.
however... it should make one go "hrmn"
and continue to look.

I agree.

The dates on the gas masks were very recent - year 2002 I believe..

To: demosthenes the elder
possession of countermeasures to NBC weaponry does not equate to evidence of possession of NBC weaponry.Exactly. I expect that our guys have similar stuff. Anything less than finding the real thing is meaningless.

While it's not the proof we need politically / diplomatically, finding these training facilities and equipment is far from meaningless.

Fox did report this yesterday.. they had a few video clips to go with the story as well

I am not trying to be argumentative but discussing....
What is the meaning, beyond they having prepared, as have we, for a chemical assault on them?
I expect they do have chemical weapons and that we will find them in due time, but I just don't see the importance of this finding.
To: RJCogburn
It's widely known that neither the U.S. nor the U.K deploy chem weapons. For the Iraqis to obviously be widely deploying chemical defenses strongly implies that they contemplate offensive use.
This is unimportant!?

It's widely known that neither the U.S. nor the U.K deploy chem weaponsPerhaps they didn't trust us or that information.
Perhaps, since they have used such weapons in the past, they wish to protect themselves from such use by, say, Iran.
I am not defending them, please understand, but merely giving plausible, if improbable, explanations.
Until we find the real deal, this is not important, IMO.
