As Pittsburgh's oldest building, the Fort Pitt Blockhouse has seen a lot of living in its 239 years, from its days as a Colonial stronghold, to its long run as a 19th century dwelling, to, finally, a 21st century museum.

In the summer of 2001 we visited Mackinac Island. They were doing an archeological dig at the Fort Mackinac while we were there. They had several artifacts that they had found that very morning. It was facinating to watch them carefully dig and screen through their "finds".

It's in California, Pa., southwest of Pittsburgh.

Interesting post, Willie. Who'd have thought there were such artifacts still there?

There's an Indiana University of Pennsylvania as well.
It's Jimmy Stewart's hometown.

If you recall old photographs of The Point, it's absolutely amazing that ANYTHING is found there, including the Blockhouse itself.
This link (PDF file - picture on the first page.) has an excellent picture of The Point during the Flood of 1936. Hard to believe it's the same place as Point State Park today, isn't it?

Yep ... about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh in California PA or about 60 miles south west of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, in Indiana PA. Both small state colleges.
