This is crazy, you're right. I heard somewhere that the average friendly fire incidents usually account for 30% of the casualties in war. Don't know if that is correct, but unfortunately, in the heat of battle, it happens.

I forget how many deaths in Vietnam and WWII were due to friendly fire but it was NOT a low figure

Yes, there always have been friendly fire incidents...
I can understand how they happen. But I cannot condone it,
because the biggest reason for it is carelessness - not knowing what you're shooting at. Especially the air-to-ground incidents! It's not like getting shot at in the jungle with mortars coming down on top of you.
