Yes. Not very many people here even know about it. It's not widly reported in the newspaper or on the evening news.
A few months ago it was reported in Guanzhou Province (just North of HK), but it was played down by the gov't. I think this was because a local medicine company was promoting their product by sending SMS messages. They were accused of starting the rumor of a deadly virus.
I don't think the Chinese gov't have an efficient way of tracking or reporting this kind of thing.
Unfortunately, since they are not reporting it in the local news outlets, it could be even more widely spread than they reported yesterday. When I ask locals about it, they don't know much about it and they usually refer to the Guanzhou story. They think its old news.
I've been here quite a few years and I know that since it is so populated, viruses spread very rapidly.

In February, a few stories hit the western press, giving the official figures, but also noting the panic buying of vinegar in Guangdong. As always, when folks can't get trustable facts, the rumor mill churns what it may.
I'd expect that if the disease is spreading in China, that'll be known on the rumor conduits before the Chinese government acknowledges it. Let us know if you start hearing rumors.
