I agree--country music is largely looked down upon. (Then there's the whole issue of whether the pop with slightly tweaked instrumentation that one hears on country stations nowadays is really country...) But "Your Cheatin' Heart" is kind of a bad example--Hank Williams's voice had quite a few of those "dumb hillbllly" affectations, not to mention those excruciating swoops ("You'll cuh-ry and cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....") that remind one of the classic Tom Lehrer line "soon we'll be sliding down the razor blade of life."

Good point.

My guitar teacher, tho, does that dumb voice with *every* country song (which he only plays and sings along with because I ask). What's more, he can't change even if he tries. I keep stopping him and saying, "quit singing in that dumb voice" and he just can't help himself.
