UCF professor held without bail as flight risk

A University of Central Florida professor facing immigration charges is being held without bail as a flight risk.

Hussam Jubara's lawyer asserted Thursday that the Gaza-born teacher ran afoul of federal authorities by knowing Dr. Sami Al-Arian, a University of South Florida professor arrested on terrorism charges, and Orlando gift-shop tycoon Jesse Maali.

"I don't think he would be here today if he hadn't been associated with Mr. Maali and studied with Professor Al-Arian," Brian D. Solomon of Orlando said after a hearing in federal court in Orlando.
