Thank you for contacting me regarding the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. I appreciate hearing from you.
As you know, the Senate considers federal judicial nominations. Our federal judiciary plays a vital and important role, and the Senate has a responsibility to review each of these nominations in a deliberate and thorough manner.
Mr. Estrada's limited record raises serious questions about his commitment to equal justice and civil rights for all Americans. Although given every opportunity to do so, Mr. Estrada refused to answer reasonable questions about his record and constitutional views during his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, on which I serve. His attempts to evade scrutiny on these issues raised troubling questions. These evasions set a dangerous precedent that allows nominees to refuse to answer important questions and prevents the Senate from fulfilling its constitutional responsibility to "advise and consent" to judicial nominations.
Federal judges have no duty more important than ensuring that our laws are enforced equally. It is critical that judges not only apply the law fairly and equitably, but also demonstrate a commitment to the enforcement of civil rights laws that guarantee all Americans receive fair treatment in our courts and in society. Because the limited record before the Senate does not establish Mr. Estrada's qualifications for the bench, I oppose his nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and will work to ensure that Mr. Estrada is not confirmed without providing information that will prove that he is qualified for the bench.
Again, thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to keep in touch.
Yours sincerely,
John Edwards
United States Senate
He could care less what we think, he only cares about his Presidential ambitions. I gave up writing him, it does absolutely NO good.

I think they must buy their form letters from RATS R US Office Supply.

A complete lie. Estrada was willing to answer all questions that were presented to him in writting. To the best of my knowledge, no one took him up on this. Secondly, this is all unprecidented.
Edwards is another Dembot.
Every Senator was given the opportunity, repeatedly, to ask additional questions of Miguel Estrada. HOW MANY SUCH QUESTIONS DID JOHN EDWARDS SUBMIT? I wager the answer to that is zero.
Evryone who cares about the Constitution should make all necessary efforts to prevent Edwards from being President, being Vice President, or even being reelected to the Senate.

So what is the other choice? Another RINO who will vote to take more of your paycheck & enslave you & generations to come with more debt & less freedoms. As I see it the sooner we all get out of this "Two-Party Cartel" & make our choices of,by, & for the people & making this oligarchy as irrevelant as the UN, then & only then will pols like Edwards respond. (competition does strange things)
And mine! Except that my reply included a painstaking recital of how many of Bush's nominees he had voted for before Estrada. My letter to him is going in the newspaper as an open letter.
Cute!
