DC Chapter members began arriving at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Whitehaven Street shortly after 5:00 this evening and began setting up our command post.
Sauropod and tgsltakoma were the first to arrive and they got to work making and assembling signs to greet the racist, bigoted Democrats who came to buy the favor of the Junior Senator from NY. Angelwood, Doctor Raoul, Kristinn, Jimmy Valentine's brother, L_von_Mises and FreeTheHostages all arrived within a few minutes of one another and they took their signs and places on the front line to greet after-work commuters and the few Democrats who dared to attend Hillary's latest fundraising fete. Taxman arrived about the time FreeTheHostages had to leave to cook dinner for her boyfriend; but she and her boyfriend came back later.
We had fun, as we usually do, drawing attention to the hypocrisy of the Democrats; with today's focus being on their racist and bigoted treatment of a very well qualified candidate for a judgeship, Miguel Estrada. And judging from the words and horn-honks we got in response, the majority of folks driving by supported us!
Oh sure, as is typical for DC, we got our share of flip-offs and curses; but I think that many folks who call themselves Democrats were ashamed of their leaders' behavior of late.
I took a stroll up Whitehaven Street around 6:30pm, to see how many folks were already up there and to wait for the arrival of Her Heinous. I stood across from the house with the other press people (just one reporter and one photographer from the same publication) out in the cold. Hillary's staff don't think much of the press, I guess.
While we stood there, a young staffer came out and got into her car, then another one opened the front door of the house...
and picked up the "welcome" mat from the stoop and took it inside!
The other photographer snapped pictures as some of guests arrived; I believe I saw John Corzine arrive, but I'm unused to snapping fast shots. These Democrats practically ran from their cars to the front door; maybe the signs my fellow DC Chapter members down the block were carrying are what caused them to scurry inside so quickly.
A few moments before 7pm the DC Police and Secret Service escort arrived at the Whitehaven Manse to provide security for the arriving Jr. Senator. And, as has become custom for Hillary (Bill started it), her car drove her to the rear entrance. "Welcome home, Backdoor Hillary!"
Neither I nor the real press guy got a shot of Herself, due to our position behind security. Just as well, both our cameras survived to photograph another day.
After Hillary's not-so-spectacular arrival, I had some time to chat with the other press guys. They asked who I was with - I told them about FR and about the DC Chapter's history of "covering" Bill and Hillary's comings and goings for years. When asked, I recounted a few of the more memorable FReeps of the impeached, disbarred disgrace of a man; and I talked to them about the typical turnout for a Hillary-hosted fundraiser.
They had been a bit surprised at how few people had shown up for tonight's event, so I explained that, in our experience at past events, usually 50 or fewer people attend. Tonight's tally was probably two dozen. And that's a generous estimate.
By 7:30pm I decided that tonight was a big dud for the DSCC and started heading back down the hill. I stopped to play with a couple of very cute and friendly pups for a few minutes, and when I looked up I saw a Cadillac Escalade coming up the hill! I ran as fast as my short legs would carry me, but didn't make it back to the vantage point to snap a photo of...
Senate MINORITY Leader Tom Daschle, as he also jumped out of the vehicle and beat feet inside the house. I never knew little guys could run so fast!
I had not known who I missed, but the other press guys told me. I don't feel bad about missing the photo op though, because the press photographer also missed it. He had filled his disc and was changing it out when Daschle arrived.
I made a quick call down to the Warlord to tell him who was in the Escalade (I figured that they thought it was Terry McAuliffe) that had driven past them. Everyone got a kick out of hearing that they FReeped Tom Daschle! And we were all tickled to have another bit of info that discredits the Democrats' contention that they are the party of the working man. Don't all working class folks drive Escalades?
Kristinn and the others who were out tonight can recount their experiences as the official greeters for Hillary's guests. They have an interesting story about Terry McAuliffe and a U-Turn. Must have been an unexpected emergency that made him turn around like that...
I know there's stuff I'm forgetting. I'll add more as I remember.

Perhaps he has realized that everytime he encounters us he has a compulsive need to say something mega-stupid? I was hoping he'd raise the cost of the anti-polution stuf he added to the SUV another $5,000 and claim $25,000 tonite.
Or was he afraid we'd report the Democrat leadership travels in SUV convoys instead of carpooling?
