SAN FRANCISCO -- To many of this city's African Americans, Police Chief Earl Sanders is a symbol of progress and leadership whose recent indictment on obstruction of justice charges is the handiwork of malicious, even racist, foes.
But another segment of African Americans who have long criticized police misconduct are finding a measure of satisfaction in the serious predicament in which Sanders finds himself.

Black conservative ping
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Sanders and Robinson are African American, Corrales is Latino, and the others are white. 7 of 10 are white; so where is the racism. This is not about race; it's about corruption and abuse of power.

Already the D.A. is mealy-mouthing about whether to take his widely-cast "conspiracy" indictments to trial. I'm beginning to suspect that he never had any evidence that would stand up at trial, but was hoping to "leverage" some with the indictments.
Also, flogging the police in public in San Francisco seems to be the political route to guaranteed popularity.
The charges have been brought. Now bring on the proof.

So let me get thtis straight. When cops use excessive force, or even pull over a black motorist, its because cops are racist. But when its a black officer or superior involved in corruption, those making the allegations are racist?

Chief Sanders raised eyebrows when he, and only he, went on "medical leave" immediately after being indicted. (A quick new diagnosis of "high blood pressure", that's the ticket.) That's the trick that only a schemer would make use of that quickly because you still get your pension if you're forced out while on medical leave. Apparently he doesn't have much confidence that he'll get out of this without some major trouble.
