SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco Bay area gas prices are breaking records and irritating motorists, and the price is not much lower in Southern California. In San Francisco, regular unleaded fuel now costs an average of $2.19 a gallon, according to a survey by AAA of Northern California. In Oakland, gas averages $2.09 a gallon, and in San Jose it has hit $2.08.

Statewide, the average price is $2.04, beating the previous record of $2.03 set in May 2001.

The average price was a bit under $2.01 per gallon in the Los Angeles area and about a penny higher in Orange County. San Diego drivers were paying an average of nearly $2.04 per gallon.

Now, all those poor folks who bought homes two and three hours from their workplace are going to be hurting.

I figure the increase is costing me another $14/month.
Oh I'm so frighted.

Gotta save the wetlands from working people, don'cha know. People need to nut up and do their bit for the war effort for a while, but I guess that would be too much to expect out of the SF Gay area. (I like that)

Not sure how acurate this is, but at least it's a way of investigating cheaper gas prices:

And didn't California opt out of using MTBE as a smog-reducing oxygenate, in favor of ethanol? If you'll remember a couple of years ago, re-formulated gas took prices above $2.00/gal in Illinois. By the way, oxygenates work only to reduce emissions in much older cars (built prior to the late 80's), In newer cars, the fuel sensors simply enrich the air-fuel mixture and reduce gas milage. So not only are we paying more, we're using more. Smart, huh?

The Kennedy's claim gas would be $5.00 if they had their way. They claim that's the real price without all the subsidies the oil industry gets from the government. Li'l Kennedy said it last week on Hannity's radio show. I guess this is a good sign then. I guess all will be well with the world when it hits five dollars.

"full service?" I don't know where you live but in CA there is no such animal ROFLMAO... no "full service" in CA means you have your chauffeur go to the service station and fill up the limo...

I know! I could not believe Hannity passed that one up!

And to think that those oil companies have been selling us gas at a loss for the past 30 years! They sure must have deep pockets!

Okay, thanks for the info.! :-}

I've never had "full service," but from what I've heard it entails paying extra for someone else to pump your gas, clean your windows, check your oil, etc.?

Here in Hawaii, regular pump-yer-own gas is around $1.90. Not sure how much "full service" would add to the price.
