We thought this was going to happen. That's why earlier we posted a joke Jay Leno made about Rather cozying up to dictators:

Comedian Jay Leno poked fun at Rather for having his picture taken with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro when both the jokester and the anchor appeared as fill-ins for a vacationing Larry King on Oct. 19, 2000.

A caller asked, "I wonder if Jay Leno will do some jokes about the news reporters, such as yourself, Dan Rather, and Bill Schneider. I think there's a lot of material there." Leno responded, "Well, Mike, did you see those pictures of Dan Rather? Who was it, Castro, Nixon? Have you never had your picture taken with anybody popular?"

Rather began to say, "I had my picture taken..." But then Leno interrupted him, "I'm surprised I didn't see Stalin, and--there you are with Ivan the Terrible. It's like--who has pictures of bad people in their house? Oh, there's me with Stalin and there I am with Castro."

A flustered Rather did not know how to respond, and curtly answered, "Let's go--we only have a few seconds left here, minute or two maybe."

--Also, last night (Monday) Leno talked about those planning to make a liberal radio network, something to the effect of "because they don't believe the liberal viewpoint is being expressed." Then he delivered the punchline: "As if they don't have T.V, Hollywood, the newspapers," and so on.

Had Dan Rather figured out a way to ingest half a pound of C4 explosive, igniting it when he and Saddam shared a Cuban cigar together, he would have made the first positive contribution of his long and non-illustrious career. He would have made the world a far better place in which to live, and might even have rendered the CBS Nightly News watchable. Okay, the latter is a stretch.

I kinda wish Connie Chung had gotten the interview.

I can see her putting her hand on his knee and saying, "Now, Mr. President, just between you and me..."

Or, better yet, Larry King. "Saddam, I don't get it. What's with the missles?"

"Oakland, California you're live on Larry King. Go ahead with your question for our dictator."

This makes me sick. Dan BLADDER has lowered himself to a new low. Which i never thought possible. But to do this is a direct attempt to embarress the president and it will make our soldiers feel more and more like we are not supporting him..Boycott CBS

How many interviews were done with Hitler? Or Goebbels? Or Tojo? Did we need to 'see their point of view'.

I can see Katie Couric now...."So Adolf. This whole Jewish thing. Are you just having a bad day, or what?".

Hopefully, this will backfire on CBS. Probably not, though. Their ratings are pretty low, as it is.

We all know that shrewd politicians are selective about who they grant interviews to, choosing only those who will lob them softballs and portray them sympathetically.

No surprise then that Saddam Hussein would pick Dan Rather.

Looks like Dan is in love. Castro is going to be jealous.

And to think how Dan Rather could have redeemed himself by blowing himself up in Hussein's presence. What a wasted opportunity.
