Sorry, but this is an excellent piece. No, it is not the red-meat Michael Savage rant that some might like, but it IS the kind of presentation that can win over minds. Of course not all the rabid left would weigh the author's logic, but a fair number of them will. The tone is quite appropriate in that regard. The author is fighting this war, too, and knows his battlefield(the potentially persuadable portion of the left). Too bad it is in National Review, this would be far more effective in a mainstream venue.

I don't care very much for Michael Savage.

I think Goldblatt's article makes some good points. But I still don't think Goldblatt understands what he is looking at.
