Feb 16, 2003 Schwarzkopf Says President Bush Has "taken Charge" for America The Associated Press

MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) - Retired Army Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf is giving President Bush high praise for his leadership skills.

"Here is a man who has been placed in command by the American people, and by golly, he has taken charge," Schwarzkopf told a crowd of 350 assembled at a benefit dinner in Melbourne on Saturday night.

Schwarzkopf, who achieved four-star rank, led more than 200,000 troops during the Gulf War.

Schwarzkopf said foreign support for any war would be appreciated, but it is hardly necessary because of what he describes as an "overwhelming buildup" of U.S. military power.

He spoke indirectly of war during his remarks, telling the crowd that everyone - not just people recognized as figures of authority - need to think of themselves as leaders.

"Leaders lead people," Schwarzkopf said. "To be a leader is to inspire people to willingly do that which they would not normally do."

He also implored the crowd to keep American military personnel stationed overseas in their thoughts.

"We ask young people to go over there to risk their lives," Schwarzkopf said. "Why do they go? Because their country asked them to. That makes it the right thing to do."

He did not lead them, he commanded them.

The leaders were up front in the battle, not in the rear with the gear.

I'll never forget the time when the media pinhead asked him, during Desert Storm, why he didn't give them more info and Norman replied that the press used to be on the side of the U.S.

General Wesley Clark, DemonRAT candidate for President and Meet the Oppressed Armchair Quarterback, had best take notice.

"Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio General Norm?
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you Ooo Ooo Ooo..."

..."retirement's" certainly no place for a man like Gen. Schwartzkopf.

Is THAT why Iraq kicked Fox news reporters out of the country? Because only Fox takes sides against Saddam, and the other stations take sides against Pres. Bush!

That's for sure! I would love to see Stormin' Norman take on Clark if he runs!

So much for the peace folks on here that said Stormin' Norman was not in favor of going into Iraq!

Is this the same Norman Schwarzkopf ??-Tom

By Thomas E. Ricks
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, January 28, 2003; Page C01

TAMPA--Norman Schwarzkopf wants to give peace a chance.

The general who commanded U.S. forces in the 1991 Gulf War says he hasn't seen enough evidence to convince him that his old comrades Dick Cheney, Colin Powell and Paul Wolfowitz are correct in moving toward a new war now. He thinks U.N. inspections are still the proper course to follow. He's worried about the cockiness of the U.S. war plan, and even more by the potential human and financial costs of occupying Iraq.

And don't get him started on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. In fact, the hero of the last Gulf War sounds surprisingly like the man on the street when he discusses his ambivalence about the Bush administration's hawkish stance on ousting Saddam Hussein. He worries about the Iraqi leader, but would like to see some persuasive evidence of Iraq's alleged weapons programs.

Actually he may still hold those beliefs because the above article only speaks about his praise for Dubya, our men in uniform and simple attrition facts of troops deployment.
