Last week, the French Friends of the LIBI Foundation donated a Torah Scroll and an ornamented Mezuzah (valued at 150,000 NIS) to the Northern Command Medical Center in Haifa. The purchase of the Torah Scroll and Mezuzah were made possible by the donations collected during a LIBI fundraising event held in Paris in November 2002.
The Torah dedication ceremony was attended by: the Commander of the Medical Center Colonel Yitzhak Ashkenazi; Commander of the LIBI Foundation Colonel Meir Blair; the Chief Rabbi of the Home Front Command Lt.Col. Rabbi Almaliach; the Commander of the Northern Medical Center Lt.Col. Tzion Bracha and Haifa's military Rabbi, Major Rabbi Mati Schneider.
The IDF Chief Rabbi, Brigadier General Yisrael Weiss was absent from the event as he was participating in the funeral of Israeli astronaut Colonel Ilan Ramon.
The event was also attended by members of the French Friends of the LIBI Foundation, IDF commanders, soldiers and other numerous guests.
The Commander of the LIBI Foundation stated that the French Friends of the LIBI Foundation carries out their holy work for the sake of volunteering and out of love for the State of Israel. The French Friends of the LIBI Foundation maintain exceptionally close ties with the IDF.
According to Dr. David Tibi, the son of the President of the LIBI Foundation in France, "The Torah Scroll was brought specifically to a Medical Center by reason of "divine faith." According to Dr. Tibi, "There is faith that the Torah Scroll will help speed the recovery of the wounded."
Dr. Tibi also noted that the French Friends of the LIBI Foundation have been donating to the IDF for many years, and recently donated three ambulances, funds towards the purchase of resuscitator units for the IDF Medical Corp, and an armored vehicle for the Film Division of the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.
The President of the French Friends of the LIBI Foundation, Mrs. Gladys Tibi, stated that a fund was being established for the purchase of a Torah Scroll in memory of Colonel Ilan Ramon.
