It looks like Downstate will decide the winner of the Dem primary. Blagojevich won the primary last year, because he was white and thus took the Downstate vote. Apart from Blair Hull, the other declared candidates are not Caucasian. I think Hynes will win it with a decent chunk of the Cook County vote and then emerge as the winner with the Downstate vote.

2002 Illinois Democratic Primary

United States Congressman Rod Blagojevich: 36.6%
Chicago School Superintendant Paul G. Vallas: 34.4%
Former State Attorney General Roland W. Burris: 29.0%

I agree Hynes will win the primary. What I'm interested in is how much support the remnants of the corrupt Illinois Republican party will give Fitzgerald. Fitz had better get the national party and Bush to back him big time, because we can't count on these local gutless worms to not stab him in the back.
