I was in Katmandhu, Nepal in 92' and saw my first squatter, It had two big footprint decals on each side of a hole in the floor with water ruunning in the drain. You gotta have good knees and watch where you put your feet. In the backcountry I used a john in a guesthouse that was a board set over a 100' drop. Breezy! All the Sherpas were lined up for a communal squat and the smell was impressive.

I spent a year of college studying in Hungary. Many medical students from the Middle East attended there as well because of the cheap tuition. They shared dorms with the Hungarian students. The bathrooms had posters made up by the locals that had a drawing of someone using the squat technique on a European toilet with a big red circle with a line through it! The locals could not stand the the filth that they created by there missed shots!
