DUI lands Dellslow man in jail (Roger Lee Murray admits drinking up to 60 beers a day)

A Dellslow man who said he drinks as many as 60 beers per day, depending on "whether it's a good day or a bad day," will be drinking no beer for at least a year.
That's because Monongalia County Judge Robert B. Stone on Monday gave Roger Lee Murray, 35, concurrent sentences of one to three years in prison and one year in jail plus a $1,000 fine on charges of third-offense DUI and driving when his license was suspended or revoked.
Murray had pleaded guilty to those charges in December under his agreement with Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ted R. Nordstrom, who agreed to stand silent on Murray's petition for home confinement.
But Stone denied Murray's petition, telling him after reviewing his criminal record, "This is your fourth offense, not your third offense. You must pay the price," Stone said, "for endangering everybody on the road."
After doing the math on Murray's admitted drinking habit, Stone said if Murray sleeps six hours out of 24, he drinks 3 1/3 beers per hour while he's awake. "That's incredible," Stone said.
Stone noted that Murray had some treatment in 1995 for his alcohol abuse, but has sought nothing since he was arrested in May 2002.
"I don't think you're a fit candidate" for home confinement, Stone told Murray, who was taken from Stone's courtroom to the county Processing Center for transportation to the North Central Regional Jail, where he'll await transfer to a state prison.
Stone said he'll request that Murray be confined in a state facility where he'll receive necessary treatment for his alcohol abuse.

This is one for the folks at the Guiness Book. Then again, I wonder if this guy can even count to 60...

I'm unclear as to whether a 60-beer day is considered a good day or a bad day.

I have never heard of such a thirsty guy.
This is an artist's rendering of the examination of the man's beer belly.

I want this guy's job. If he can drink that heavily and still afford that much beer, it's a high-paying, do-nothing job.

He must have a bladder the size of a keg...

My geuss is that welfare pays for the beer, our legal system will now pay for his room and board for a while (and attempt some rehab), and eventually medicare will probably pay to keep him alive while his liver is failing.

Funny pic.
I knew a guy once who had a severe drinking problem. His wife left him because his drinking. About a case a day of regular beer. He decided he would quit drinking so he could reconcile with his wife and be with his son. His system was so used to the alcohol that when he quit cold turkey, his system went nuts. He died within a month. The doctor told his family if he'd been weaned off the beer, he'd have probably lived about 6 more years. He was 33 at the time. Such a waste.

Wow, even when I was in top-form in college, I don't think I could make 60 a day, maybe 40.

There are two drugs, sudden and complete withdrawal from which can kill you. Heroin isn't one of them. Both are depressants: alcohol and barbiturates.
To: TontoKowalski
If he can drink that heavily and still afford that much beer Crappy American beer in CANS, no doubt.
Probably Beast, or Busch.
Weak p*ss water.
I can understand why it would take 60.
