ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast - The United Nations says it has evidence that the Ivory Coast government is sending out death squads that have killed or abducted dozens of politicians and businessmen in the capital of Abidjan since civil war broke out four months ago.
The United Nations is investigating the alleged death squads, which operate largely under the cover of Abidjan's 10 p.m. curfew. The deaths and disappearances have spread fear in the capital and silenced many of the government's political opponents.
Hundreds of people have been killed, and an estimated 600,000 have fled their homes since civil war broke out in the world's largest cocoa producer. Rebel soldiers from the mostly Muslim north have battled the government, accusing it of discrimination.
France, the former colonial power in the Ivory Coast, announced Wednesday that it was sending more troops to enforce a peace plan that has met widespread resistance.
In a report issued recently, the United Nations says that both sides have been guilty of human rights abuses but that the government is connected to the murders of dozens of politicians and businessmen.
Hell, the French were probably the ones behind this report being issued. I guess they figured they didn't do enough to appease the Muslim rebels, so they're going to make the jihadist's job easier by undermining the Ivory Coast government.
I would strongly urge any and all non-Muslims living in Ivory Coast to start making travel arrangements post-haste. The Religion of Peace is coming.
What a bunch of crap from the UN. When thousands upon thousands are killed and they sit on their hands. This proves France is the UN's Monica.
