Truth is, obesity related deaths have already overtaken, and galloped far past the alleged number of deaths caused by 2nd hand smoke! Surgeon General David Satcher said. “We're talking about health.” When he called yesterday for sweeping changes in the nation’s schools, restaurants, workplaces and communities to help combat the growing epidemic of Americans who are overweight or obese.
Fact is, the control freak crowd want to control and regulate almost every aspect of other people’s lives, property and businesses in order to create their illusionary dream world, and are willing to use government force to enslave any identifiable class or group of people which does not now fit into their dream world standards.
If the N.Y.C Mayor can say the following to support his Gestapo smoking ban:
"Smoking kills people," Bloomberg said on Friday in his weekly WABC Radio show. He said every year 350,000 people die in the United States alone from smoking-related diseases. "I've always been amazed why everybody isn't up in arms against smoking. You really have to be out of your mind to smoke, it's killing you," Bloomberg said. Then why can’t he say the following to require overweight city workers to go on a strict government monitored diet to reduce taxpayer funded health costs and save lives?

Please note: the author of the above is a non-smoker, believes smoking is a disgusting habit and for weak minded people, is more than likely a danger to the health of those who smoke, and may be a danger under specific and unusual conditions to those in near proximity of a smoker. However, there is a much bigger picture involved…the unalienable rights of individuals to make their own choices, and, constitutionally protected rights associated with property ownership.
