Explosion With Quito: a casualty, an office of American Airlines damaged

News (AP): "TWO BOMBS FROM LITTLE KNOWN REBEL GROUP EXPLODE NEAR ECUADOR HOTEL" (ARTICLE SNIPPETS: "QUITO, Ecuador - Two bombs exploded near a five-star hotel Tuesday night, blowing out windows at the hotel and at an American Airlines office in its lobby. One person was injured, police said.


The bombs exploded at about 7:20 p.m. (0020 GMT) in a park 20 meters (65 feet) in front of the Hilton Colon, police said."

"A little-known group, the Revolutionary Militias of the People, claimed responsibility for the bombs and left fliers at the site rejecting recent austerity measures announced by President Lucio Gutierrez, police said.

The leaflets read: "Armed response to the anti-populist and imperialistic measures," police said, and referred to Gutierrez's plans to raise gasoline and electricity prices to help reduce Ecuador's staggering US$2 billion fiscal deficit."...

"In August, two same-day explosions injured three people, with fliers pledging an armed revolution to confront widespread corruption and poverty. The group claimed that its members had been trained by Colombian guerrillas."
