Slain Kahanist's funeral procession winding into Jerusalem (UPDATE)

The funeral procession of slain settler and Kahaneh activist Netanel Ozeri, who was killed in a terrorist attack in his home on an illegal outpost near the West Bank town of Hebron Friday, is making its way to Jerusalem at this time, after earlier uncertainty concerning the spot of his burial resulted in scuffles between rioting settlers and police.

According to Israel Radio, sources close to the Ozeri family said Netanel's body is set to be delivered to Jerusalem's Hara'ayon Hayehudi yeshiva. They did not elaborate as to his burial arrangements.

Ozeri widow, Livnat, took his body from Hebron, where he was to be buried in the Jewish cemetery to be buried in Jerusalem. Although in transferring his body to Jerusalem, Livnat stands in defiance of earlier police orders, police still said they would guard the family car transporting the body to Jerusalem. She had earlier demanded her husband be interred on Hill no. 26, the illegal outpost on the outskirts of Hebron where they both lived.

Chief Asjkenazi Rabbi Me'ir Law said procrastination in bringing the dead man to rest showed contempt to the body, Israel Radio reported.

Dozens of settlers rioted Sunday afternoon during the funeral procession and harassed members of the media. Rioters at the procession slashed the tires of Jerusalem Post correspondent Matthew Gutman's private car, and broke his backlights. This was done although the car was clearly marked by the letters "TV", denoting its driver is a member of the press. Other media reports showed rioters on the scene verbally abusing journalists on the site, and several photographers had their cameras broken.

Media reports said Ozeri took her husband's body to Jerusalem with the aim of mounting a protest there over a police ban on his burial in the site of his killing Friday night, an illegal outpost on the outskirts of Hebron.

Activists of the outlawed Kach movement had earlier stolen Ozeri's body. Although there was no final agreement concerning the site of burial, the funeral procession had been seen advancing toward the ancient Jewish cemetery in Hebron, in accordance with police orders.

During a scuffle that ensued Sunday afternoon among the mourners as clergymen tried in vain to intervene, Kiryat Arba's Rabbi Dov Lior had to be spirited away for his own protection from the vehicle bearing Ozeri's body.

Several activists of Kach, a group calling for the expulsion of Arabs, to which Ozeri belonged, grabbed his corpse from the truck. They ran off to bury him on the same hilltop outside Kiryat Arba where he lived in an encampment, and was shot to death Friday evening by terrorists who invaded his home, witnesses said.

The incident occurred during a dispute at Ozeri's funeral between his widow who sought to inter him on Hill No. 26 where they lived, and Ozeri's parents from Bnai Brak, who want him buried in Jerusalem.

Two policemen were wounded in scuffles with the settlers, but their condition remained unknown at this time. One settler was arrested after he attempted to break into a Palestinian-owned shop in Habron's Kasbah. Athough several Palestinians have lodged complaints with police over vandalism.

Full curfew was imposed on the Palestinian residents of the H2 sector of Hebron, with the aim of sheltering Palestinians from settler attacks, the IDF said.

Yes? . . . THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD TERRORIST - G.W.B. The Jerusalem Post Internet Edition

Location of slain Kahanist's funeral still unclear (UPDATE)

The funeral procession of slain settler and Kahaneh activist Netanel Ozeri, killed in a terrorist attack in his home on an illegal outpost near the West Bank town of Hebron Friday, which was making its way to Jerusalem after earlier uncertainty concerning the spot of his burial resulted in scuffles between rioting settlers and police, was stopped following a rabbinic ruling, media reports said.

Ozeri's body was set to be delivered to Jerusalem's Hara'ayon Hayehudi yeshiva, associated with Kach founder Meir Kahaneh, by his widow, Livnat. However, a rabbinical ruling has barred her taking the controversial step, citing dishonor of the dead: the body has been carried around for the entire day.

Livnat Ozeri had taken his body from Hebron, where he was to be buried in the Jewish cemetery to be buried in Jerusalem. Although in transferring his body to Jerusalem, Livnat stood in defiance of earlier police orders, police still said they would guard the family car transporting the body to Jerusalem.
