There was an NAACP supported movement a few years back to have ebonics supported as a legitimate dialect that could be taught in school.

Maybe this shop owner is just trying to show support for that movement.

Wasn't that a movement by the Oakland school district?

What it amounted to was a district full of lazy, under qualified teachers wanting to sanction their own academic laziness.
