The gypsies are the new victims in Slovakia. How are they being treated in the rest of E. Europe? I recall that the Serbs treated Roma in Kosovo better than the Albanians did.
Apparently they're the thorn in the side of most of the countries where they live, from Greece to Macedonia to Kosovo. A few years ago the UN was "disturbed" about the KLA killing so many Romas, but nothing was done about it.
I can understand the eviction of unemployed who don't pay their rent. But to relocate those who own their own homes, pay taxes, hold good jobs, just for being part of an ethnic group...it doesn't make any sense--except in the context of ethnic cleansing. The Slovak government isn't trying to beautify towns by eliminating rampant crime and poverty. They're trying to get rid of the Romas altogether.
