Has anybody ever been elected President directly from the House of Representatives? I can't think of one. Bush was a governor and so was that guy before him (can't remember his name). Bush Sr. was a VP. Reagan was a governor. Carter was a governor. Ford was a congressman when Nixon made him VP but never was elected. Nixon was a VP. Eisenhower was a five-star General. Truman was a VP. FDR was a governor. I can go back further but I think I've made my point.

Yeah, but the GOP has been wiping out the Democratic governors. The Dems won some state houses this year but it's not like any of those governors can turn around and start running for President in 2004. The most popular Southern governor possibilities got zapped in November trying to get reelected. That leaves them with Greyout Davis as their lone possible for 2004. Well, except for small state loonies like Dean. *weg*

So it's up to the loonies in the Senate and House to save the day for the "I hate America" Party.
