but it means a: decent, honest, trustworthy, honorable human being.

It is hard to convey the special sense of respect, dignity, approbation, that can be conveyed by calling someone "a real mensh!"

What, exactly, is Yiddish? Is it related to Hebrew? It seems like a lot of New York Jewish phrases come from Yiddish.
