Clinton Visits Raleigh and Basks in Warmth With Democratic Party Pals While Neighbors Freeze
News and Observer online ^ | Today - 12-7-02 | Rob Christensen

RALEIGH -- Former President Clinton voiced support Friday for President Bush's campaign against Iraq as he sought to lift the spirits of Democrats and even found a kind word for his old nemesis, Sen. Jesse Helms. Although he appeared in Raleigh to back church efforts to replace housing destroyed during Hurricane Floyd, Clinton also appeared at a fund-raiser in which he said his successor was taking the right approach in pressuring a regime change should Saddam Hussein not give up his weapons of mass destruction.

"I hope the Democrats will support the position the administration now has in Iraq, which I think is the correct one," Clinton said at a $1,000-a-person fund-raiser at the home of former U.S. Ambassador Jeanette Hyde and her husband, Wallace. "We are going through the U.N. first. But we haven't ruled out the use of force."

Clinton also cautioned that simply creating a Department of Homeland Security was not enough and that the country needed large-scale investments in both local security efforts and foreign aid so that terrorism isn't allowed to fester.

Later in the evening, Clinton appeared before a dinner sponsored by the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, raising money for the African-American group's efforts to replace housing in Princeville lost during Floyd.

Clinton was introduced by noted trial lawyer Willie Gary, who called Clinton "the first black president of the United States of America," prompting applause and laughter from the crowd of about 500 at the Raleigh Convention and Conference Center.

In speaking to the religious group, Clinton kept his remarks largely nonpartisan, generally praising the group's humanitarian efforts, frequently quoting the Bible and giving inspirational remarks.

Balm for progressives

But at the housing fund-raiser at the Hyde home, Clinton was with a more political crowd, and he broached the November elections, in which the Democrats lost control of the U.S. Senate and were generally battered across the country.........

The true "rest of the story" is reported in today's actual News and Observer "newspaper" which is thus: The Clinton $1000 Hurricane Fran housing fundraiser (guffaw - more on this topic later) was held in a home in an area of Raleigh still without power from the ice storm of this week. Last night the temps were the coldest of the week - below 20 degrees in some areas - and the "inside the Beltline" area of Raleigh has many neighborhood still without power - including the one where this Ambassador Hyde lives - Hayes Barton.

Amazingly, her home had power restored so that the Democratic fat cats attending - including the Governor who has had much face time on the media pretending to care about the people of NC suffering in the bitter cold from lack of power....but the other homes in the area had no power at all! Now I was called this morning to be told this news - so we need area Freepers who have an actual News and Observer hard copy from today to confirm this tidbit of information.

The person who called me lives in the "inside the Beltine area" and froze through last night with no power - and is so livid after reading the "privileged Democrats" cavorting in heat and comfort while neighbors right around them continued to freeze - (special treatment by CP&L - the power company???) - that this person wanted to be sure something was posted on FR about it and pass the world up the line of our VRWC news commentators.

More soon - may have to invest in a N&O - though it is strictly against my principles!

Just a ping to see if anybody has read today's News and Observer which supposedly reported Clinton's fundraiser being at a home that mysteriously had power while others in the neighborhood did not......need confirmation - but the article about the fundraiser visits by Clinton is for sure.

How gauche is it that Clinton come to supposedly raise money for housing for people hurt by Hurricane Fran when

1. In this week's crisis which people are comparing to the devastation of Fran - Clinton and his Democratic elite bigwigs party and pal around in cozy WARMTH while the neighbors right around him continue to freeze - meaning they supposedly care about the Fran victims now (Ha! Ha! Ha!) but not a thing about the December Ice Storm Victims right around them!!!!

2. Multiplied millions were raised in 1996 after Hurricane Fran - much of it controlled by the Democrats who run the NC State government - and the complaints of the people that money was intended to help have not stopped being heard even if the N&O squelches them. People were put into trailers - but multiplied millions that was raised was either not spent by the NC money brokers or was given to people who didn't need it - with it being RETURNED TO THE GOVERNMENT COFFERS some - just this week!!!!

This outrage - if 100% true - MUST BE BROADCAST LOAD AND CLEAR PLEASE - NEED WPTF RADIO PEOPLE ON IT NOW. I hope Jerry Agar will be on top of it Monday. Please help see that he is.

According to the N&O written report from this morning, the power was not from a generator. But, again, I have not seen the actual report. This person did read it and was blinded by rage!

He quoted scripture? I wonder if he got any of them right this time. (He has a trackrecord of misquoting scripture. That's because he's never really read it and doesn't really think much of it anyway.)

He is telling the democrats to back Bush because he knows Bush will have a very successful Iraq campaign taht will be over in 6 months

Then Clinton knows the Gullible American public will turn to the Clinton democrats to save the economy just like in 1992

What do you suppose AR Bill is "up to" here? Or is he getting nostalgic about all the Republicans he outfoxed?

If the lights went out, I hope all of the ladies kept both hands firmly on their britches. Otherwise, the rest of us are going to have to support another generation of Clinton perverts.

Yeah, its cold here in SC too. Came home from work,a couple of nights ago, trees and power poles were all over the road. My brother is still without power and doesn't expect it back up until Wednesday. So far ,I've been fortunate.

As I was on my way home from work, I noticed the local jail (Northside) in Spartanburg,SC was also without power. That must be one unhappy place about now.

Bill Clinton addressing the DLC on 3 DEC 02

What should our security position be? First of all, we ought to listen to Senator Graham. Al Qaeda should be our top priority, Iraq is important but the terrorist network is more urgent in terms ofits threat to our immediate security as we have seen recently in the attacks in Kenya and in Bali. There was a report in the press recently that the number two man in the al Qaeda organization, Dr. al-Zawahiri is hiding out in Bangladesh. If he is, we ought to find him and get him.

Bill Clinton addressing NC democrats on 6 DEC 02

I hope the Democrats will support the position the administration now has in Iraq, which I think is the correct one," Clinton said at a $1,000-a-person fund-raiser at the home of former U.S. Ambassador Jeanette Hyde and her husband, Wallace. "We are going through the U.N. first. But we haven't ruled out the use of force."

Not that his opinion matters much anymore, but I wish this guy would at least try to be consistent.

My in-laws are yellow dog Democrats who voted for Clinton twice because he was going to "tax the rich," never realizing that since they live in McGregor Downs, THEY are the rich; we just couldn't convince them that they were going to get hit hard.

BUT -- they LOVE Jesse Helms. Everybody down here loves Jesse, because Jesse's office took care of all comers, regardless of race or party.

As stupid as he is, and as much a liar as he is, he wouldn't have gotten out of town alive if he has slammed Jesse.

That's what he was "up to" there.
