I'm sorry the guy died and I'm sorry for his family. I'm not going to blame anyone, however, but the officer himself. "just following orders" doesn't excuse him from responsibility for his own choices.

The tragic irony of the situation is striking. If he was really the one cop in the world who was willing to knowingly risk his own life to politely remind people of the wisdom of wearing seatbelts out of a purely selfless concern for his fellow man, I might shed a tear. You and I both know, however, that what he was really doing was tyrannizing people under the color of the law while pretending to have a genuine concern for their safety. This exercise is typically accompanied by an incredible amount of condescension, disrespect and disingenuous, presumptuous preaching as well as an outrageous tax in the form of a ticket.

This is a classic case of someone who should have been worrying about their own safety instead of pretending to be concerned about someone else's while totally disregarding their right to be unharrassed. Let me know when cops start asking questions first and shooting later when they conduct a no knock raid on the house of a free man for exercising his inalienable right to own a firearm to protect his family and property and I might start looking at enforcement of seatbelt laws differently.

Seatbelt laws are inconsistent with the fundamental elements of a free state.
