Letter to Campus Paper Blasts Liberals

Liberals must learn when to fight terrorism

I am now convinced the "liberal" population of the United States is incapable of learning. We keep hearing from the Democrats, Independents or other liberals that we shouldn?t conduct a pre-emptive strike on Iraq. These people just don?t learn.

What is it going to take? The World Trade Center was bombed the first time, two American embassies were bombed simultaneously in Africa, the USS Cole was bombed, plus more smaller attacks most people aren?t familiar with. And who was in the Oval Office during all of these attacks? Bill Clinton (Democrat!). And what was done in response to these attacks? A few worthless bombing runs at unimportant targets just to appease the American people.

Why didn?t the administration do more? Well, because the terrorists were across the sea, so far away, and unable to really hurt Americans. Then on Sept. 11, 2001, the terrorists showed what they could do from afar. Because of liberal pacifist attitudes toward all the previous attacks, nothing was done and several thousand Americans died.

I thank God that a Republican (especially a Texan) was in office on Sept. 11, 2001. If Al Gore (Democrat) had been in there, we probably would have launched a couple missiles and that would have been the end of it. Bush is just doing what needs to be done.

Saddam Hussein has said that if he could deliver weapons of mass destruction to America, he would. Why don?t you people do some research on the horrible death VX gas causes? Don?t you people understand? They want Americans dead. I don?t know how else to emphasize that. Sometimes you do what you have to in order to survive. Now the liberals are protesting a war with Iraq, and when Iraq kills millions of Americans with gas or germs, they?ll act surprised.

Folks, all is not lost on campuses. This letter to the campus newspaper of my alma-mater indicates people in the non-liberal arts field still have their heads screwed on straight. I got my masters degree from Purdue and my own experience is that it is a rarity among campuses, a delightfully pro-American, conservative campus. My experience is restricted to engineering courses and students.

I am currently at Pitt, in Engineering. Engineers seem to be more conservative than the general student body, perhaps because many are "capitalistically oriented".

I think being capitalist is a result, not a cause. Engineering students understand logic and reality better than most.
