OK, either they institute Thatcherism or we should prepare to bomb them before they invade Poland again.

Whose bright idea was the euro?

One of the most noticeable things about the German press is the extent of the self-censorship. Perhaps that will now end?

I get an absolute kick out of Will Hutton's articles in "The Guardian" babbling with enthusiasm about the EU and the euro and how silly and archaic the "euroskeptics" are.
I used to work for a company that worked heavily with a German major bank, one which is reeling right now. I worry about my old Bankers Trust friends who are now working for Deutsche Bank. In the shower this morning I was musing that the Germans must be thinking, "Once we had a D-mark and everything was great. Now we have a euro (not that we were ever given any say in the matter) and everything has gone to hell."
(And as a footnote to Germans it's "Deutsch-e-mark" or "D-mark". "Deutschmark" was filed away with the goosestep and Gothic lettering.)
