WASHINGTON (AP) - Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) said Monday he is trying to expand programs to bring educators, journalists and political and religious leaders from Islamic countries to the United States.

"We are committed to ensuring that our programs reach out to Muslims in all walks of life," Powell told a gathering of Muslim-Americans at an Iftaar, the end-of-the-day meal that breaks daylong fasts during the holy month of Ramadan.

Powell said the United States also is committed to enhancing understanding by building hope.

"From the mountains of Afghanistan (news - web sites) to the valleys of Bosnia to the plains of Africa to the forests of Asia and around the world we are on the ground working with our Muslim partners to expand to the circle of peace, the circle of prosperity, the circle of freedom," he said.

Describing extremism and violence as America's greatest enemies, Powell said, "We must not listen to the siren song of the bigots, extremists who cloak themselves in false spirituality in an attempt to divide and to weaken us."

Just like I thought, a story would not get any coverage on FreeRepublic because it makes Powell look bad. Read it and weep my fellow Freepers because there is more of this to come.

Give it a break friend. There is plenty of discontent and criticism around here. I for one have never been a Powell fan and I've voiced my opinion in that regard. I speak against policies and positions regardless of who holds them. I think that is the rule rather than the exception around here. That said, this position is ludicrous but what should we expect from the guy who advised Bush Sr. not to advance on Baghdad when it was easily within our grasp because he didn't want to upset the UN.

I wonder who this jackass was referring to with this statement. Apparently Mr. Powell doesn't think that more Islamic infiltration will 'divide and weaken us'. Who the hell is this 'us' anyway? He certainly ain't speaking for me.

I hope they are ready to accept Christ, because a massive revival is about to hit this earth like a giant meteor, and America is going to be ground zero for its initial impact. "He that is baptized shall be saved, he that believeth not shall be damned". "And all nations will flow into it (Christ's Kingdom)".

If Powell is dreaming of all this without Christ being involved in the equation, he better ask his boss, President Bush, who Jesus Christ is, and that HE is the only true and living God, and Muhammad is nothing more than a false prophet of death. And anyone who rejects Christ as His Kingdom starts to establish itself on Earth, will soon find themselves in a very uncomfortable and terrible position. Calling people who reject Islam based on the historical facts bigots, if they don't repent, will soon perish from the Earth.

From the mountains, to the prairies... Oops, wrong song.

I've never liked or trusted Powell because he's pro-abortion. You can't trust the judgement of a pro-abort. Ever. Period.
