it's NEW YORK!, for heaven's sake. Who do you want the Republican nominee for governor to be? Jesse Helms?, He will lose by 80 points.

If it stayed confined to New York State, a Pataki would not be a problem. The problem is if it wants more ala Christine Whitman and pulls the rest of the Republican party left.

Every county north of Rockland and Westchester should hold a referendum and form a new state. No more Pataki, no more Schumer, no more Rodham-Clinton. Lower NY would keep 12,000,000 of New York's 19,000,000 residents and a bulk of its tax base while Upper NY would keep the current infrastructure already in place up there(capital etc. in Albany, SUNY branches). It would be the best of both worlds. Lower NY would keep its money and Upper NY could finally have the right people in power to make the necessary changes to turn around its economy.

He will lose by 80 points.
Would an honest opposition and a real alternative be worse than backdoor socialism? Besides, didn't people used to talk the same way about the pre-Reagan, national GOP?
