Did we ever find out if this was being motivated by LE or by the local parents.

It might be healthy for kids to get away from public schools. Who knows? They might learn something, escpecially if there's a computer in the house.

More likely the sight of Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe cruising the area.

Local news has been saying that this is a response to parents and community leaders calling and asking "What are you going to do to protect my children."

The Superintendant's resonse: "Your job. Not ours."

Taken this light, I'll conditionally retract my "overreacting" editorial comment.

I've read mostly parents. It's a survival of the species thing.
Mothers are fearing for their children. I can understand that.

The news media is saying that the authorities suggest we are entering a new and dangerous phase to this game. Apparently because of what has been said in the note and or phone conversations. Perhaps this information has been given to this school disctrict? Some direct threat...all of a sudden the schools decide to close. Interesting...the news media knows (from what the NBC guy said) what was in that note. They specifically said that they were holding this information back from the public (the media were). So one might consider this as a reason for the school being closed? Wordy I know...but just some thoughts.

You can dream. But likely it's a steady diet of Spongebob Squarepants and Pokemon on the tube and lots and lots of Nintendo. But hey, at least the kids will be safe, right?

What really pisses me off about this is that we all know that the sniper reacts to the news. As soon as it was mentioned that the sniper doesn't go after kids, a kid is shot going to school the next day. As soon as it is mentioned by the media that the sniper never strikes on weekends, BANG, we get a shooting on Saturday night. Closing down the schools is just begging for trouble. This twisted sniper has probably already decided to make a kid his next target because of the school closings and he'll just lie low for a while and see how many days he can keep the schools closed. When they finally do reopen, he'll be back.

"The Superintendant's resonse: "Your job. Not ours."

Which is an unusually honest response for government. These days the government looks at their job as being to redistribute our income. In terms of providing for security, well that’s our problem, which is why we all need to be packing.

Hmm, where's that attitude when they are teaching kids sex ed, tolerance of "diversity", etc? :)

Did we ever find out if this was being motivated by LE or by the local parents.

I heard Alan Price say today that there was supposedly 150 phone calls in 20 minutes concerning the schools closing. They were in favor of closing.

All I can say is that it appears the sniper is winning this battle.

There was also a call today looking for parents to post guard at some of the school doors. Apparently they can't find enough brave souls..

If this comes to Palmyra I will be there.

Maybe, Sam, but since he has striked as far South as Richmond and as far North as Montgomery County, Maryland, all he has to do is pick a school in that range that hasn't closed.

Give them guns and we're starting to head in the right direction - and boy, won't the LIBS be freaking out!

I would agree with your sentiments, EXCEPT, that the survival of the species meeting place seems NOT to be at home, but at the mall. It's amazing the number of parents who apparently seek safety for themselves and their children at the nearest shopping center. Why can't they see the irony of this??

I wonder how fast his response would change if I were to provide armed escort to my child.

Maybe. Or maybe this sniper just wants to send a message to the particular schools that have closed so as to demonstrate that "nobody is safe." I certainly hope not. But this is a madman we are dealing with here.
