If I remember correctly, uniformed officers were stationed at polling places to ensure that all citizens, especially minorities, could to exercise their right to vote.
I would think that memories of a hard-fought battle won would be cherished.

This takes the cake. His own election officials, ALL Democrats, can't run a basic election, but it's not the fault of the incompetent election officials in Miami-Dade. No, it's the fault of the government--of course, meaning George Bush.
McAuliffe was claiming that 1,000's of lawyers are going to be all over FL Nov. 5 assuring that the election goes smoothly. Having police all over as well is probably not something he had in mind.

102.101 Sheriff and other officers not allowed in polling place.--No sheriff, deputy sheriff, police officer, or other officer of the law shall be allowed within the polling place without permission from the clerk or a majority of the inspectors, except to cast his or her ballot.
