There could be some truly interesting, one-time, special uses such as close in anti-aircraft or anti-missle protection, but in the field I would take an M-2 Browning any day.
There's nowhere to feasibly store enough rounds for it before ammo supply was completely exhausted.
Let's look at an x-ray of that hand after the gun has fired!

This will give you a look at the fantastic ways this weapon system can be configured. It is truly revolutionary. Their founder is in Australia, but the Pres. and COO is a retired US Navy Admiral with offices in Virginia - very handy to DOD. I have talked with some people in this office and without going too far out on a limb, it sounds like they have their act torgether. Who knows, we may have a beta test site soon....

No, easch shot is electronically triggered. You can do it single shot, 2,4,7, 125,000 at a burst. All depends on how many barrels you have and how many shells per barrel. ,p> Go to metalstorm.com and look at technical demos.
Picture a box. In the box are stacks of barrels - 8 or 12 barrels to a stack. Now fill the box with stacks side by side. So now you have 64 or 144 barrels in the box.
Each barrel has, let just say. 12 rounds in it - nose to tail in the barrel - but each is individually addressable by the firing computer.
To reload, you put in new stacks of barrels.

Indeed it does... if it can actually avoid chain-fire explosions. A bursting barrel is no picnic, and this thing has a barrel full of projectiles and propellant charges, all sitting neatly in a line.
I just don't see where the thing is practical as a sidearm. Replacing the barrel at each reload would be unacceptable in many countries, as it is the barrel which is the registered, serial numbered part. In the U.S., the idea of a "throwaway" barrel would drive BATF absolutely crazy, and the FBI ballistics lab, too. Therefore, this would definitely be a police/military firearm.
I wonder if the charges at the rear of the barrel are a bit lighter than those up front, to provide a consistent muzzle velocity (the last shot would theoretically benefit from a longer barrel than did the first shot).
